Fireworks From This Year's Bar Conference

10 November 2011

A number of members of Chambers attended at the Bar Conference on 5th November 2011.

The Chairman of the Bar, Peter Lodder QC told delegates that even in light of the far reaching government cuts and difficult economic times the bar is value for money, “we offer a high quality and cost effective service, are highly mobile and have low overheads.”

Stephen Cobb QC, Chairman of the FLBA updated those attending on the recent Norgrove report. It has been generally welcomed by Family Law Practionners. The proposals aim to reduce delay in the courts. However their effect could be hindered by legal aid cuts. The Family Justice Review panel are calling for a six month time limit in child care cases, more specialist family judges and a simplified court structure.

Max Hill QC Chairman of the CBA told CBA members that there may be no alternative to direct action due to the government cuts.
