Areas of Speciality:

Simon specialises in serious crime of all types including murder, sexual offences, drugs conspiracies, immigration crime and fraud. He has for a number of years been a Grade 4 prosecutor and appears regularly for both the prosecution and the defence. He also specialises in regulatory law including health and safety prosecutions and coroner's inquests. Simon is extremely user friendly for clients and is sensitive to their needs. He has a reputation as a formidable advocate and a determined cross-examiner.

R v Webb - Representing 73 year old charged with mercy killing murder of his ill wife of 49 years. Defendant acquitted of murder on basis of diminished responsibility (adjustment disorder). The sentence appeal has become the leading authority on mercy killing manslaughter. [2011] EWCA Crim 152

R v Morris & Others - Leading junior defending in multi-million pound conspiracy to defraud involving large scale identity theft. Defendant acquitted of all counts

HSE v Lightwater Valley & others - Led junior prosecuting on behalf of the Health & Safety Executive for offences linked to a collision causing a death on a rollercoaster

Re Nicola Stacey - A high profile Coroner's inquest representing a firefighter who was alleged to have gone through a red light whilst answering a hoax 999 call when collison occured killing one of the occupants of the other car

R v Michael Crowther - Successful prosecution of defendant charged with multiple child rapes

R v Taylor - Defending man charged with murder. Complicated causation issues. After trial defendant acquitted of all allegations

R v Rushforth - Defending alone in conspiracy to murder allegation. Defendant convicted of lesser charge of conspiracy to commit assault occasioning actual bodily harm
